MATERIALS

Allegory’s 14k Gold Plated Brass jewelry is cast in brass before going through extensive hand polishing to create a smooth surface texture. The brass is then underplated with a tin-rhodium alloy to provide strength and durability. The piece is then plated with 14k Gold. The outcome is a beautiful shiny luster with a high level of detail and smooth surface finish. To provide additional protection against wear and tarnishing, a thin nanocoating is put on top of the precious metal plating.  (Allegory’s Brass consists of 15% zinc, 5% tin, and 80% copper. The tin-rhodium and 14k Gold electroplatings are approximately .25 micron each.)  Precious plated metal is a durable material, but can still scratch or wear through over time if not cared for properly. To prevent damage, store your piece in a soft cloth pouch away from other products, and avoiding exposure household chemicals and cleaning products.

Allegory’s Polished Silver jewelry is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft therefore, the silver is alloyed with copper to give it strength, while at the same time preserving the beauty of the precious metal.  The Silver is lightly hand polished to achieve a smooth finish but still can have some surface texture.  As with other precious metals, the polished surface of silver is soft, so scrapes and scratches are to be expected as a normal part of wear. To minimize damage and ensure your piece lasts a lifetime, store it in a soft cloth pouch and away from other products. Avoid exposing the product to household chemicals during cleaning as they can be damaging to the finish. Use a silver polishing kit to maintain a glossy surface.
